Molly at 8 Days

molly_peeking_small.jpg
Molly is 8 days old today. She's been sleeping most of the time, but I feel like I've lived an entire lifetime. Denise and I are exhausted and I, unfortunately, have to go back to work tomorrow. It will be difficult not seeing Molly until the evening, but life goes on and kids have to learn.

Some more big steps today. The doctor took her off the oxymeter, which keeps tabs on her oxygen level, and the caffeine that's administered to premies to make sure they breathe ended last night with no trouble.

We're holding her in "Kangaroo Care" as much as we can. The skin-to-skin contact soothes her and makes her grow faster. It's also a fantastic feeling for us. She cries when we move her, but quickly calms when held. Her food intake is up to 12cc every three hours, which is a challenge to fulfill for Denise, but she's doing it.

It now seems to be a matter of time and weight, as long as she can breathe fine without the caffeine. Her eyes are regularly open now, but she has trouble controlling them, which makes for some really weird and funny expressions.
