Old Dog, New Trick

Occasionally, I catch myself thinking about something that I take for granted, like car keys or mowing a lawn, and examining it. The other day, I actually paid attention to the way I tie my shoes and realized, after 30-something years of tying shoes, that I in fact was doing it wrong. Because of the way I cross the strings initially, I was tying a granny knot, not a square knot. I've always tied my shoes very tightly because they inevitably came untied sometime during the day and the tightness of the knot delayed that, but now, embarrassingly, I've realized they loosened because I, all these years, had been tying them incorrectly.
