I watched The Passion (aka Die! Jesus Die!) in hopes of experiencing a work of art and instead was disgusted beyond belief. What kind of country do we live in, where the site of a beautiful breast on national television invokes severe repercussions yet a movie such as this is revered as A Reason To Become A Christian? Honestly, I expected more from it, and was sorely disappointed. Did it make me "want to be a better person?" as I have heard many say? No. It made me ashamed to be a part of a species so willing to do that to our own. Did it really happen? Does it continue to happen today? Come on, what have we really learned as a species?
As for the movie itself, I was exhausted by the end of it. I prefer to believe in the Da Vinci Code version of things. :)
I must address Deb's comment.
March 18, 2003 Times Newspaper (Times Online) England article written by Ann Clwyd was entitled "See men shredded, then say you don't back war". The machine designed for shredding plastic was used -men were dropped into it & others were made to watch (witnesses remain alive today).. Ethnic-cleaning was an everyday life in Saddam's Iraq.
Do your research-
The Passion revealed the Roman method of torture during that time and Matthew 26:52-54, 59 tells why Jesus did not stop the occurrance.
We must met when you visit Texas and see Molly Elizabeth in person. It's her birthday today-a true miracle of LIFE for her grandfather and I.
Not to hop in on someone else's business, but humanitarianism is a propaganda tool for leaders to jusify unpopular wars to the masses. Notice that the Musso... I mean the Bush administration has progressively rotated the reasoning for the unnecessary and illegal war in Iraq. First it was mostly about weapons, when that dropped out it was about Al Qaeda ties, when that dropped out, it's all about freedom and democracy and blue fingers and whatnot. A heartwarming notion, but merely propaganda. There's currently mass genocide in Sudan, we didn't do much to stop massive slaughter in Rwanda, North Korea is controlled by a dictator which has displayed ten times the brutality of Saddam, and most definitely has nuclear weapons.... The list goes on. Here's something to look up. Bush constantly cited the gassing of the Kurds by Saddam's regime as indicative of his evil, find out who was President during that period, and what actions were taken. Here it is in short, Bush Sr./None. In fact the Administration wanted to establish relations with Saddam at the time, and went so far as to downplay the brutality.
Does anyone not see how we are manipulated into believing what is convenient for our leaders at a certain time?
I'm not so sure Christ would support the bombing of children (whether accidentally or otherwise) even if it were to depose a ruthless, evil man. Saddam's brutality was his to answer for. Our's will be our's.
So Nana, do you not see that ethnic cleansing is present all over this world, even in our own country? Why are people in the USA so blinded by the evil on our own soil? Why is human sexuality a SIN yet murder is acceptable?
Of course Molly is a wonderful life - but she was a CHOICE so carefully planned by her parents. They should ALL be CHOICES and given the love they deserve, as Bryan and Denise are so wonderfully doing. Hurray Molly! One year! WOW!!! Congrats mom and dad! :)
