I Won't Lose

I didn't watch President Bush on Meet the Press this Sunday because of blood pressure concerns (he talks, it rises), but I saw some clips from the interview, one of which piqued my interest.

When asked if he was worried about his falling popularity and losing the election, he replied, "I won't lose."

His response wasn't unusual; it was the way he said it that gave me chills. It was almost like he knows, for a fact, that he isn't going to lose, like the fix is in. I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but what's a little election-fixing to an administration willing to orchestrate a war based on blatant lies?

But wait, there's more. Diebold manufactures electronic voting machines that are having all kinds of "problems". And the CEOs of the three major voting machine manufacturers are big-time Republican contributors who are committed to Bush's re-election.

I'm not saying anything illegal is going on, but lots of people, myself included, think this doesn't pass the smell test.

Update February 9th: Salon's running a story about the concern over voting machines.

If you are too stupid to read a simple ballot, and punch the chad completely through, you really shouldn't be voting.

At least with punch cards or bubble ballots there is a physical/mechanical connection between the voter and the ballot. You don't get that with digital voting.

I say bring back the hanging chad.

While we are at it, let's turn back the clock a little more and only allow property owners to vote.
